About Margie
Margie Crisp, is a naturalist, writer and nationally exhibited artist whose artwork can be found in private and public collections in the United States and Mexico. Her first book, River of Contrasts: The Texas Colorado (Texas A&M University Press, 2012) received the 2013 Texas Institute of Letters' Carr P. Collins Award for Best Book of Non-Fiction and the 2012 Ron Tyler Award for Best Illustrated Book on Texas History and Culture, presented by Texas State Historical Association. She was the Texas Book Festival poster artist in 2012. The Nueces River: Río Escondido (Texas A&M University Press, 2017), also an award-winner, was illustrated by her husband, artist William B. Montgomery. Duck Walk: A Birder’s Improbable Path to Hunting as Conservation was published in 2023.
Margie Crisp is a member of the Centennial Painters group and the Art of Texas State Parks Project. She has a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and lives near Elgin, Texas with her artist husband William B. Montgomery, a lively Labrador named Tika, and rescue mutts Wilhelmina and Ruby Jewel.
